About You
Educational Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in information technology, Computer Science, or a related field. Equivalent work experience in systems administration can be an acceptable substitute.
- Industry-Specific Knowledge: Familiarity with the oil and gas or distribution industries is a plus, as these industries may have specialized software and regulatory requirements.
Professional Certifications (Highly Valued):
- CompTIA Network+ or CompTIA Security+: Foundational certifications in networking and cybersecurity.
- VMware Certified Professional (VCP) or Citrix Certified Associate (CCA): Valuable if the environment involves virtualization or remote desktop services.
- Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) Relevant if security is a major aspect of the role.
- Cloud Certifications: AWS Certified SysOps Administrator, Google Cloud Professional, etc., if the company uses cloud platforms.
Technical Skills and Experience:
- Operating Systems: Expertise in managing Windows Server environments, Linux/Unix systems, and experience with Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, and Group Policy.
- Server and Network Administration: Experience managing physical and virtual servers, storage solutions, network equipment (routers, switches, firewalls), and LAN/WAN configurations.
- Database Management: Basic to advanced knowledge of databases like Microsoft SQL Server, MySQL, or Oracle, which may be used in ERP and other mission-critical systems.
- ERP and Business Systems: Familiarity with ERP systems like Sage 300 (if applicable) or other specialized oil and gas software used for inventory management, distribution, and logistics.
- Virtualization and Cloud Computing: Experience with VMware, Hyper-V, or other virtualization platforms, as well as cloud infrastructure (Azure, AWS, Google Cloud).
- Backup and Recovery Systems: Experience setting up, managing, and monitoring backup systems, disaster recovery protocols, and business continuity planning.
- Security and Compliance: Experience managing firewalls, VPNs, intrusion detection/prevention systems (IDS/IPS), and ensuring compliance with data protection regulations like GDPR, NIST, or industry-specific requirements.
- SCADA Systems: (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) Experience with SCADA, often used in the oil and gas industry to monitor and control infrastructure.
- Monitoring Tools: Experience with network/system monitoring tools such as SolarWinds, Nagios, or Zabbix to ensure uptime and performance.
Experience:
- 3-5+ years of experience as a system administrator or IT specialist, preferably in the oil, gas, or distribution industry.
- Experience managing industry-specific tools used in oil distribution, such as fuel management systems, fleet management software, or logistics platforms.
- Handling Multi-site Environments: If the company operates across multiple locations, experience managing IT infrastructure in multi-site deployments is valuable.
- Experience with System Migrations and Upgrades: Managing and executing migrations, system upgrades, or the introduction of new technologies across the organization.
Soft Skills:
- Problem-Solving Abilities: Excellent troubleshooting skills for quickly resolving technical issues, minimizing downtime, and optimizing system performance.
- Communication Skills: Ability to explain technical information to non-technical employees and coordinate with different departments, including operations and logistics.
- Project Management: Experience managing IT projects, such as network upgrades, ERP implementations, or new system rollouts.
- Team Collaboration: Working well with cross-functional teams to support operational needs.
- Adaptability: Ability to work in a dynamic and fast-paced environment, especially in industries like oil distribution where system uptime is critical.
