Background
The Institute for Peace and Security is looking for researchers with experience in data collection and report writing for an impact assessment study of AU’s African Peace and Security Architecture. The year of study shall be 2023, and the study is in collaboration with the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), World Bank Group (WBG), the United Nations Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (UNOHCHR), and the African Union (AU).
Responsibilities
The Researchers will be responsible for data gathering for the African Peace and Security Architecture impact assessment study. Particular attention will be given to APSA instruments in the context of the following case studies: Cameroon, Sudan, Tunisia, Mauritius, and Mali. The researchers will work with and report directly to the Research and Policy Analysis Unit Coordinator at the Africa Peace and Security Programme of IPSS.
Objective
In particular, the objective for the incumbent will be to familiarize extensively with the APSA Impact Assessment project’s Methodology, harvest data that will be used for the finalizations of the Study’s report, and other related activities as directed by the Coordinator. The Researchers will also be expected to contribute to other knowledge products with particular focus on their assigned case studies.
Specific tasks and responsibilities
- Conduct the necessary fieldwork and desk research within Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, to collect relevant data for the APSA Impact Study.
- Organise the data collected, write a report presenting the data collected, and submit the organised data and report to the APSA Coordinator. This must be done according to the APSA Impact Study Methodology.
- Provide targeted research support based on requests from the APSA Coordinator.
- Identify areas for further research interrogation and report them to the APSA Coordinator.
Duration: 3 months with a possibility of renewal based on the project’s need.
Location: The researcher shall work remotely but must be based in the case study country mentioned earlier.
Number of positions Needed. Five (one researcher per case study country – Cameroon, Sudan, Tunisia, Mauritius, and Mali).
