Job Summary:
The role involves the implementation of a child protection program within the Bambasi IDP site, focusing on community-based initiatives. Responsibilities encompass supporting prevention and response activities, collaborating with the community, engaging in psychosocial support, and leading case management services in coordination with the Woreda Bureau of Women and Children Affairs (BOWCA).
Key Responsibilities:
Case Management
Provide coaching and technical support to the woreda BOWCA on child protection case management.
Assist in assessing living conditions of children in the IDP site and contribute to the development of a strategy addressing their needs.
Support BOWCA team leaders and social workers in monitoring, verifying, and documenting child protection cases.
Oversee the preparation and implementation of case action plans and home visits conducted by social workers.
Enter data into the Child Protection Information System (CPIMS) database and share compiled reports biweekly.
Assist BOWCA child protection officer in facilitating appropriate care arrangements and alternative care systems for children.
Identify potential foster families for unaccompanied and separated children in collaboration with CP committees, social workers, and community leaders.
Participate in BID Panels for Best Interest Assessments in collaboration with other partners.
Assist the BOWCA office child protection team as required.
Additional Responsibilities
Organize and facilitate weekly positive parenting sessions.
Support child rights clubs in raising awareness of protection concerns and promoting children’s participation.
Assist in organizing psychosocial support activities at the Safe Healing and Learning Space (SHLS).
Collaborate with the CP Officer in celebrating international events and conducting awareness-raising sessions.
Facilitate the involvement of children and the community in the child-friendly space, documenting progress.
Support the preparation of budgets, work plans, and spending plans, ensuring accurate utilization and timely implementation.
Adhere to the child protection code of conduct.
Take on additional responsibilities as requested by supervisors.
Key Working Relationships:
Report directly to the Child Protection Officer, with oversight from the Asossa field coordinator and technical support from CP managers in Addis Ababa.
Qualifications:
Job Requirements:
Apply basic to intermediate-level knowledge acquired through training, on-the-job experience, and formal education.
University Degree in Social Science, Social Work, Psychology/Sociology with 2 years of relevant work experience (for diploma holders) or 0- years of relevant work experience (for first-degree holders).
NGO experience is advantageous.
Fluent in spoken and written English and Amharic languages.
Experience in capacity building and mentoring.
Good digital literacy (MS Word and Excel).
Strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills, flexibility.
Understanding of CP program approaches and practice.
Confirmed experience in developing competency-based training modules.
