Job Description

The International Rescue Committee (IRC), a leading global humanitarian NGO, offers relief, rehabilitation, and development aid to vulnerable populations across more than 30 countries. Since 2000, our operations in Ethiopia have addressed crises like severe drought in the Somali region, providing assistance to Ethiopians and refugees in six regions. Our programs encompass health, water and sanitation, economic recovery and development (ERD), women’s protection and empowerment, education, child protection, and multi-sectoral emergency response.

Job Overview:

The role entails implementing a community-based child protection program at Bambasi IDP site. The position involves supporting prevention and response activities, including community engagement, psychosocial support, and leading case management services in collaboration with the woreda Bureau of Women and Children Affairs (BOWCA).

Major Responsibilities:

Case Management:

  • Provide coaching, mentoring, and technical support to BOWCA on child protection case management.
  • Assist in assessing living conditions of children at the IDP site and contribute to developing appropriate strategies to address their needs.
  • Support BOWCA team in monitoring, verifying, and documenting cases of children.
  • Ensure timely entry of data into the Child Protection Information System (CPIMS) and share biweekly reports.
  • Facilitate appropriate care arrangements and alternative care systems for children.
  • Participate in Best Interest Determination (BID) Panels and identify potential foster families for unaccompanied and separated children.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Organize and facilitate positive parenting sessions.
  • Support child rights clubs in raising awareness of protection concerns.
  • Facilitate psychosocial support activities at the Safe Healing and Learning Space (SHLS).
  • Collaborate with CP Officer on international events and awareness sessions.
  • Engage children and the community in child-friendly spaces.
  • Assist in budget preparation and tracking.
  • Adhere to the child protection code of conduct.
  • Fulfill any additional duties assigned by supervisors.

Key Working Relationships:

Reports to the Child Protection Officer, with oversight from the Asossa Field Coordinator and technical support from CP managers in Addis.

Job Requirements:

  • University Degree/ Diploma in Social Science, Social Work, Psychology, or Sociology with 2 years of relevant work experience for diploma holders or 0- year relevant work experience for first degree
  • NGO experience preferred.
  • Proficiency in English and Amharic.
  • Capacity building and mentoring experience.
  • Digital literacy in MS Word and Excel.
  • Strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
  • Understanding of CP program approaches.
  • Experience in developing training modules.
  • Fluency in local languages advantageous.
