About the Organization
The Ethiopian Red Cross Society (ERCS), established in 1935, is one of Ethiopia’s oldest and largest humanitarian organizations. ERCS provides critical services to communities affected by natural and man-made disasters, including emergency responses, first aid, family reunification, water and sanitation services, and various disaster risk reduction programs. The organization partners with government bodies, international Red Cross movements, and other NGOs to carry out its mission across Ethiopia.
About the Project
ERCS, in partnership with the Danish Red Cross, is implementing the “Addressing Climate Change and Displacement, and Promotion of Preparedness and Early Action at the Horn of Africa” project. This project aims to assist vulnerable communities, including displaced people, to better prepare for and respond to climate-related challenges while promoting sustainable, climate-smart practices.
Position Overview: Project Coordinator
The Project Coordinator will oversee the effective implementation of this project by coordinating activities, providing technical support, and managing project progress. The coordinator will work closely with ERCS branches in Tigray and Somali, Danish Red Cross representatives, and multiple stakeholders to ensure project success.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordination: Liaise with ERCS HQ, branches, and the Danish Red Cross, ensuring all project documents and reports are reviewed and submitted as per guidelines.
- Planning and Monitoring: Oversee planning, monitoring, evaluation, and reporting activities to meet project objectives.
- Capacity Building: Develop M&E tools, conduct training for staff, and ensure community feedback is addressed.
- Documentation and Reporting: Ensure accurate records of project activities and provide regular updates to stakeholders.
- Risk Management: Identify project risks and implement solutions.
- Networking: Maintain communication with external stakeholders, including government partners and other NGOs.
Qualifications and Experience
- Education: MSc/BSc in Disaster Risk Management, Project Management, Agricultural Economics, or related fields.
- Experience:
- 8+ years (MSc) or 10+ years (BSc) of relevant work experience.
- Proven experience in project management, with at least 2 years in M&E roles.
- Familiarity with humanitarian and NGO operations.
- Experience in CVA management, livelihood project management, and emergency response/recovery in an NGO setting.
Skills Required
- Strategic planning and project management.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Proficient in MS Office, Kobo, GIS (an asset).
- Excellent command of English and Amharic.
