Job Description:
Islamic Relief is an international relief and development charity founded in 1984, operating in Ethiopia since 2004. We are seeking a dedicated Driver for our office in Afar Regional State, Ewa. The Driver will report to the Log/Admin Officer and will be responsible for ensuring the safety of passengers, proper vehicle maintenance, and efficient transportation of goods and personnel.
Responsibilities:
Vehicle Operation:
- Drive and maintain the vehicle in a professional and safe manner, adhering to local road traffic laws.
- Ensure the vehicle is equipped with necessary tools, spare parts, and a first aid kit at all times.
- Maintain a valid driving license and keep vehicle documents updated.
- Conduct daily and weekly vehicle checks and ensure proper maintenance.
- Keep the vehicle clean and display organization stickers prominently.
- Ensure no unauthorized personnel or harmful items are on board.
Communication:
- Maintain a logbook of vehicle movements, mileage, servicing, and petrol consumption.
- Maintain regular radio communications between field staff and office.
Security:
- Park vehicles in safe areas during field visits and within the office compound when not in use.
- Report any accidents or incidents promptly and follow proper procedures.
Reporting:
- Report accidents, incidents, vehicle damage, or malfunctions to the office manager.
- Prepare activity and incident reports annually.
Requirements:
Personal Specification:
- Completion of secondary education, with a valid 3rd-grade driving license.
- 2 years of previous work experience with non-governmental organizations.
Required Skills/Competencies:
- Excellent oral and written communication skills in English.
- Residency in and familiarity with the community served.
- Interpersonal skills and ability to work in demanding situations.
- Basic knowledge of Islamic Relief’s operational area.
- Commitment to humanitarian principles and Islamic Relief’s equal opportunity policy.
