Job Description:
Orbis International is a nonprofit humanitarian organization that works in developing countries to save sight worldwide. Orbis prevents and treats blindness through hands-on training, public health education, improved access to quality eye care, and partnerships with local health care organizations in an effort to eliminate avoidable blindness. Orbis International-Ethiopia is a legally registered Country Office of this organization, carrying out the same mission in Ethiopia.
Orbis International-Ethiopia is seeking to recruit two Field Assistant/Drivers as seen below.
The main functions consist of, but not limited to the following:
JOB SUMMARY
The Field Assistant/Driver is expected to provide full time driving, and assisting the Logistics and Transport Coordinator/Project Manager/Field Coordinators/Finance & Admin Officer and other field staff members in dispatching and messenger service in field coordination to ensure the efficiency and effectiveness of the field support of the respective project. Field Assistant/Driver will also handle small pity cashes and payments.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Under the overall supervision and guidance of the Orbis International Ethiopia Logistics and Transport Coordinator/Field Coordinator/Project Manager/the Field Assistant/Driver will have the following specific duties and responsibilities:
Driving Responsibilities
The Field Assistant and Driver must prepare vehicle by conducting regular check-up and plan requirements by studying schedules/requests by the office. Moreover, the Field Assistant and Driver must be always attentive to the needs of the project office and perform tasks as assigned.
Operate the organization vehicle within the country including Orbis field areas;
Make the vehicle ready regularly;
Fill out the vehicle log sheet properly and consistently as directed by the organization;
Keep records for regular maintenance and service of the vehicle;
Make sure that the vehicles are in good state constantly, with special emphasis on
vehicle checkup before departing for field trip;
Respect the country’s traffic rules and regulations;
Report any involvement in road accident immediately to the supervisor and concerned authorities and obtain relevant documents from Traffic Police, Local Administration etc. and submit same for timely insurance claim and/or any relevant action.
Identify the problem (if any) and maintain the vehicle as required otherwise report the problem for further repair by outside service provider;
Field Assistant Responsibilities
Deliver messages/dispatches to and from the office and effect payments for settlement of small bills as instructed by the supervisor;
Assisting the Project Manager/ Field Coordinator by keeping complete records of assigned vehicle for the field office on a separate file;
Assist the field staff in routine matters like running messages, handling and arranging training and related materials etc; especially during trainings for Integrated Eye care Workers (IECWs), Health Extension Workers (HEWs) and volunteers such as Women Group Leaders (WGLs), Community Health Agents (CHAs), and school teachers and other relevant bodies that can contribute to blindness prevention;
Assist the Logistics & Transport Coordinator/Project Manager/ Field Coordinators during Mass Drug Distribution in dealing with partners, transporters, facilitators and the beneficiary communities.
Assist field staff in handling other field level logistics requirements like small procurements, safe keeping of materials and goods etc.
Receive and keep under custody payment and receipt vouchers and bank statements;
Effect payment for project activity related expenses and deliver the document for the assigned Finance and Admin Officer/to pertinent finance team member/s/ for settlement
Settle monthly tax of the project office and hand over the document to the assigned Finance and Admin Officer/ pertinent finance team member..
Collect bank statement and cash transfer advice from bank
Provide any other office assistant services whenever available;
Perform any other tasks as assigned by the supervisor.

Job Requirements:
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
Completed 12th grade,
possess minimum 3rd grade driving license;
Minimum 5 years of vehicle driving and practical experience in giving assistance at field level with safety first and safe driving habits;
