Job Opportunity: Hygiene and Sanitation Promoter

Job Summary

The Hygiene and Sanitation Promoter is responsible for planning, coordinating, and following up on hygiene promotion activities at the grassroots level in emergency response projects. The promoter will work under the supervision of the Field Coordinator and collaborate with project team members and departments such as HR, Finance, Logistics, M&E, Safeguarding, and Engineering. The role includes overseeing hygiene promotion activities, distributing IEC materials, conducting community meetings, and promoting behavior change communication techniques.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and oversee hygiene promotion activities, including community meetings and awareness campaigns.
  • Ensure hygiene promotion indicators and targets are achieved according to the work plan.
  • Conduct training for public health focal points (HEW & HAD).
  • Integrate hygiene promotion activities into other project activities, such as NFI distributions and construction works.
  • Conduct meetings to identify gaps in public health and hygiene awareness and preferred communication channels.
  • Coordinate with M&E for public health and hygiene awareness surveys.
  • Incorporate hygiene promotion into WASH committee (WASHOCO) trainings.
  • Participate in working groups related to hygiene promotion and behavior change communication.
  • Ensure COVID-19 prevention messages are integrated into hygiene promotion activities.
  • Update materials according to government and WHO guidelines.
  • Support procurement processes related to hygiene promotion.
  • Provide regular updates on hygiene promotion progress to the Project Manager.
  • Collaborate with other actors in the target community.
  • Be flexible and assist with various activities as needed.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Substitute other Project Managers during their leave as assigned by the Program Manager.
  • Ensure accountability and safeguarding in line with PIN’s Code of Conduct and Key Policies, including the prevention of sexual exploitation, abuse, and harassment.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Degree in Public Health, Environmental Health, Social Science, Humanitarian Studies, or related fields.
  • Experience: 2-4 years in hygiene promotion or community health programs, emergency sectors, and knowledge of Cash and Voucher Assistance (CVA), shelter & NFI, and WASH.
  • Skills:
    • Proficiency in computer applications such as Word, Excel, Email, PowerPoint, and SharePoint.
    • Good networking, representation, coordination, and negotiation skills with government and partner agencies in the intervention area.
    • Strong communication skills.
