Research Officer II – Seed Procurement

  • Position Overview: Research Officer I – Seed Procurement

    • Manage and coordinate all aspects of seed procurement activities for PATSPO II, including establishing seed orchards in collaboration with partners.
    • Conduct research activities and prepare seed portfolios to support timely seed procurement in alignment with Annual Work Plans.
    • Coordinate seed demand monitoring, collection planning, and implementation with Regional Tree Seed Centre Heads and Ethiopian Forestry Development.
    • Contribute to seed source identification and inclusion in the National Tree Seed Source Registry.
    • Support Seed Source Officer in establishing seed sources as per Annual Work Plans.
    • Develop training materials and participate in training farmer groups on tree seed collection.
    • Conduct applied seed research on species-specific techniques for monitoring fruit formation, seed processing, storage, and testing.
    • Collaborate with stakeholders to develop guidelines for seed crop assessment, collection, processing, storage, pre-treatment, and sowing of priority species in Ethiopia.
    • Prepare inputs for Annual Work Plans and Annual Progress Reports.
    • Plan and organize project-related meetings.
  • Minimum Requirements

    • Education:
      • MSc. degree in forestry or related field with postgraduate specialization in seed procurement and/or seed technology.
      • General understanding of tree improvement.
    • Experience:
      • Minimum 5 years post-graduate experience, including practical work with tree seed and research in seed procurement/technology.
      • Additional advantage for post-graduate studies or similar experience.
    • Skills:
      • Familiarity with development and relevant research techniques.
      • Ability to plan and manage multi-faceted activities.
      • Computer literacy (MS Office).
      • Data analysis and report preparation skills.
      • Adherence to policies and procedures.
    • Other Requirements:
      • Flexible work hours, including travel and extended fieldwork.
  • Duty Station: Addis Ababa, Ethiopia
  • Job Grade: HG 14
  • Monthly Base Salary: Birr 54,708 (Negotiable)
  • Terms of Appointment: Fixed-term for eighteen months, with the possibility of renewal based on performance and funding availability.
