Job Summery
The Assignment / Responsibilities
- Coordinate and consolidate the projection of biweekly cash requirements, monitoring cash flow and reconciling cash accounts.
- Ensures the reliability of accounting information by recording, verifying, and entering transactions into the system.
- Issue different payments in a timely manner and enter data into the system on a daily basis.
- Coordinate and consolidate the projection of monthly, quarterly, and annual expenditures and prepare pipeline estimates for the project.
- Reviews project expenditures and financial transactions to ensure they comply with the policies and procedures, the terms of the agreement, and donor rules and regulations.
- Reconciles the organization’s cash balance against bank accounts on a monthly basis and reports to the Director.
- Maintain well organized accounting files for all projects and perform audits and spot checks.
- Manage advances and payable aging within the allowable time frame by closely following up with requestors.
- Track expenses and other financial transactions, mainly involving expense entry, tracking, and record keeping.
- Produce periodic financial reports based on the requirement of donor reports and computerized records.
- Flag potential risks and issues to the Director and recommend process improvements to mitigate risks and improve the quality of reporting.
- Prepare Year-end financial statements, arrange and ensure timely completion of external audits.
- Maintains and balances subsidiary accounts by verifying, allocating, posting, and reconciling transactions and resolving discrepancies.
- Prepares weekly, and monthly financial reports to the Director.
- Performs financial analysis as appropriate to support risk assessment and inform decision making.
- Assists annual financial year-end audits and provides necessary support for external auditors.
- Manage and oversee the day-to-day accounting operations of the organization.
- Prepare and analyze financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements.
- Keep up-to-date with changes in financial regulations and ensure compliance.
- Utilize ERP systems for financial management, ensuring data integrity and accuracy.
- Ensure compliance with all financial regulations and standards, including IFRS.
- Implement and maintain internal controls to safeguard organizational assets and ensure financial accuracy.
- Provide financial insights and recommendations to the Director and senior management.
- Prepare ad-hoc financial reports and analysis as required.
- Perform additional tasks requested by the immediate supervisor.
Job Requirement
The Senior Accountant should possess an in-depth knowledge and experience of financial management. He or she must possess good communication skills and be capable of providing continuing capacity building activities to OFAG’s finance and other teams.
The Senior Accountant must demonstrate the following minimum qualifications, expertise, and experience:
- Minimum BSc/BA in Accounting/ Accounting and Finance or related discipline from a recognized institution.
- A minimum of 6 years of accounting experience with at least 2 – 3 years of accounting experience at a senior level and at least 1 year in an accountant function for a Donor project such as the EU, UNDP, World Bank, FCDO, USAID, and others is highly preferred.
- In-depth knowledge of IFRS and cost accounting principles.
- Familiarity with EU procurement procedures and practices is highly desirable.
- Prior experience of working with the Government of Ethiopia is highly desirable.
- Proficiency with ERP systems (e.g., IFMIS, SAP, Oracle).
- Proficiency with the Peachtree accounting system.
- Good record keeping and reporting preparations.
- Accuracy and attention to detail.
Languages:
- Excellent verbal and written English and Amharic.
Other requirements:
- Adequate Computer technical skills in data processing.
- Expertise in Microsoft Office.

Methodology
- The Senior Accountant will be supervised by the Finance, Procurement, and Property Administration Directorate to coordinate the utilization of the grant budget of the project. The Senior Accountant will work on a full-time basis and be located in the office of OFAG.
Duration of the assignment
- The Senior Accountant will work initially for one year, starting from November 2024, and have an opportunity for a 2-year extension based on work quality and satisfactory performance
Period: 1st November 2024 to 31st December 2026
Special Conditions: Some out of work hours’ may be required
Place of work: Addis Ababa
