UNICEF

UNICEF is devoted to operating in some of the world’s most challenging environments to reach and support the most vulnerable children, with a commitment to saving lives, defending rights, and assisting children in achieving their full potential. The organization operates in 190 countries and territories, working tirelessly every day to create a better world for all children. UNICEF remains steadfast in its dedication to these objectives.

In Ethiopia, a country located in the Horn of Africa and the second most populous on the continent, with an estimated population of 115 million, UNICEF actively engages. Ethiopia shares borders with Djibouti, Eritrea, Kenya, Somalia, South Sudan, and Sudan, covering a vast land area of 1,104,300 square kilometers. About 85 percent of the population resides in rural areas, showcasing a rich tapestry of ancient cultures that reflect a fusion of Middle Eastern and African influences in the religious, ethnic, and linguistic diversity of its people.

In the face of various and complex emergencies, such as the conflict in northern Ethiopia and widespread drought, children and their families have experienced significant impact over the past two years. These crises have left millions in need of urgent humanitarian assistance. UNICEF’s programs in Child Protection, WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene), Health, Nutrition, Social Policy, and Education play a crucial role in addressing these challenges. With a commitment to serving over 15 million children in Ethiopia, UNICEF invites individuals to join its efforts and contribute to improving the lives of children and women in the region.
